Army Navy Country Club has a rich history dating back to the Civil War. As Abraham Lincoln faced a country in crisis, he had to find ways to make Washington DC “the most heavily fortified city in the nation.” The Confederate Army was just miles away, leaving disaster in its wake. Lincoln went to work commanding the building of forts that would strengthen the city. On the Virginia side, the Union created Fort Richardson, using the higher grounds as a natural barrier. While the war has ended and Fort Richardson was destroyed, its legacy still lives on across the golf course, where you can find the fort’s former parapets right around the Red 9 green. 

In 1924, the formerly war-torn land was used to create a space where members across the military could have a place where they could relax and partake in recreational sports. Just five miles from downtown DC, the area still has everything you could need to have your perfect day off. There are large pools, fitness centers, tennis, and golf courses. The historically significant space serves as a reminder of the past as well as an ode to the present. The center goes out of its way to give members a luxurious spot where they can unwind, and this sense of hospitality extends through its event-planning services. 

Details of the Grounds

The Army Navy Country Club is ready to accommodate your wedding whether you would prefer a ceremony that’s indoors or out. For those who would prefer to have their wedding outside, there are several spaces you can utilize. The terrace overlooking the green tends to be a favorite spot. This area features a balcony with a white patterned gate that can easily be dressed up with your decorations. The stately exterior of the building will serve as your backdrop. If you would prefer something a little closer to the ground, you can speak to the venue about using the surrounding lawn for this portion of your day. 

Some couples prefer to have an indoor wedding in the ballroom. This spacious place features high ceilings, a white fireplace, and chandeliers to light up your ceremony. 

If you would like an intimate outdoor space for your reception, the venue can set up your party on the terrace. Your guests will be able to look at the views as they celebrate your love story. 

Inside, there are several smaller ballrooms you can use for this portion. The favored space tends to be the 5-star Ballroom. This elegant space provides you with plenty of room for all your loved ones to raise a glass before it’s time to dance the night away! 

Cocktail Hour And Beyond

The patio gives you a positively stunning space for a cocktail hour. You will be able to set up a bar as well as high-top tables. For an indoor option, you can use one of the smaller ballrooms. 

The venue offers designated get-ready rooms you can use in the hours leading up to your celebration. You will have an upscale space where you can sip some champagne and put on all the finishing touches before your ceremony begins. 

The Army Navy Country Club venue is ready to host your wedding, no matter the size. The venue has options for parties with anywhere from 24-300 guests. They will help you find the spot that can accommodate all of your guests! 

Located just outside of DC, the venue offers the same Federal architectural style you will find in most Capitol buildings. The front facade features high columns and a stone front with a white wing on either side. The interior is just as stunning. The ballrooms feature white whites with matching chair rail and crown molding. Dark herringbone-patterned wood is on the floors, and there are elegant bronze chandeliers across the floor. 

Photography Opportunities

The Army Navy Country Club gives you plenty of fabulous spaces for your wedding portraits. The interior features a grand staircase you can use for group portraits as well as intimate couple portraits. The front stairs leading into the venue is a great option for showing off all the details of your dress. The patio lets you take couples portraits while overlooking the impressive grounds. You can also use the landscaping surrounding the venue for your pictures. 

Wedding Details

The venue starts out by connecting you with an event planner who will help you plan all the details of your wedding. They have an on-site catering team and pre-made menus you can select for your event. If you would prefer another menu, you can speak to the team, and they will make it happen. The venue has rentals available, including outdoor speakers, wireless microphones, baby grand pianos, a bartender, and a culinary attendant. They will provide you with a valet service for groups of over 50 guests. They allow non-members to use the space and provide discounts to members.
