When you’re planning your dream wedding, you need a place that can effortlessly match your style. Whether you’re someone who craves the outdoors or needs a little bit of panache, your venue should feel perfectly representative of you. As a Maryland photographer, I get the chance to tour some of the most unbelievable spaces in the state, and as a result, I’ve compiled a pretty expansive list of potential places to consider for your day. If you’re on the search for a legendary venue with a side of elegance, let me tell you why a Whitehall wedding will feel like it was custom-made for you.
1915 Whitehall Road, Annapolis, Maryland 21409
Whitehall is a waterfront wedding venue that features one of the most historic spaces in the state. The house was built back in 1764 and served as the home for Horatio Sharpe, Maryland’s last Provincial Governor. The mansion became the first National Historic Landmark in the state. To this day, it’s maintained by non-profit organizations passionate about keeping the house’s history alive. They work meticulously to maintain the 135 acres as well as the estate itself. As you explore the grounds, you’ll find storied trees and heritage blooms that will transport you across centuries. The venue is located just a mile and a half from the Chesapeake Bay shoreline and offers breathtaking waterfront views.
Because the Whitehall home is so historic, the wedding venue goes out of its way to prevent wear and tear in the house. While your wedding party will have limited access to the interior of the estate, all aspects of your party will need to be held outside. Never fear, though! This venue offers several breathtaking ceremony spaces across more than 100 acres. You will get the chance to tour the venue and pick out the spot that works for this part of your day. Whether you want to exchange vows near the water or set up your guests in the yard with the house as your backdrop, you’ll have endless options. All areas of the lawn have been treated with mosquito repellants, and you can use event tents to shade this part.
The venue remains flexible with where you can set up your reception. If you choose to have every part of your day at the estate, this is your chance to maximize the views by setting up in a different area. You will be able to set up an event tent in the yard and provide your guests with shade as well as a place where they can dance once dinner is done. Because your event will take place outside, there is really no limit to how many guests you can invite to your wedding day. The venue welcomes you to throw events with over 600 guests.
The gardens will provide you with a refined space for your cocktail hour. You can set up lawn games across the yard, which is the perfect way for your guests to stay entertained as you take your pictures.
The Whitehall wedding venue has a 1700s cottage on-site that they will include with your booking fee. With this area, you will have several rooms where everyone can get ready before your day begins. Serve up some champagne, put on all the finishing touches, and settle down the nerves as your guests start to arrive.
The manor is an exceptionally stately building with Palladian architecture throughout its construction. The house has one level with a brick exterior and light brick framing surrounding the windows. There are large white columns in front of the stairs that take you through the white door. The estate was built on a slope, and the walkways remain grassy with small, paved stairs built into the land, taking you from one level to the next. Massive trees and shrubs surround the front.
The back of the house features a back door with two twin staircases leading you down to the grounds. Here, there is a paved walkway with a fountain in the middle. A wooden fence runs across the property. The event tent is rounded with wooden stakes driven into the ground. You are welcome to bring in their parquet dance floor.
Whitehall allows the wedding party into the house for photos before and after the ceremony. These rooms are historically accurate with bold colors and gilded accents. The pink walls will serve as a perfectly dreamy backdrop for your individual portraits as well as your couple’s pictures. For your first look pictures, you can explore the gardens and find the right spot for this monumental portrait. The arched doorways, as well as the back staircase, are ideal for your first pictures together following your ceremony. The waterfront backdrop will be fabulous for pictures with your wedding party as well as your family. Because your event will take place outside, your portraits will be full of natural lighting!
Whitehall will also ensure you have all the accommodations you need leading up to your wedding. They will provide you with a 3-night stay at the historic, two-story, two-bedroom cottage that dates back to the 1700s. You’ll have the perfect space to stay before your wedding as well as following your late-night bash. They also give you complimentary access to the house for your engagement pictures so you can celebrate this legendary space before your wedding. You will have a parking lot for over 250 guests. The venue will provide you with a venue manager, security, police, and a parking attendant. For your meal, you will be able to choose from their list of approved vendors. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
With a Whitehall wedding, you will have a truly unforgettable space to write the next chapter in your love story. Be sure to schedule your tour soon so you can decide if this is the spot for you.
